About Us

Toba World is an ethical business concern that supports Arts, Culture, Sustainability and Poverty Alleviation.  First initiated in Hawaii in 1996 the business was established one year later through research and advocacy activities in SE Asia and predominantly Sumatra and Indonesia.  In 1998 the Fair Trade unique village product model was presented in the United Kingdom.  In 2000 Vivienne Tobassa introduced her clothing, jewellery, bedroom homewares and interior designs into London, UK.  She joined other advocates in supporting poverty alleviation through ethical trade, preservation of traditional cultural practice and direct support of Arts, Music and Environment through sustainable business.

For the past 14 years Vivienne has continued to advocate ethical and sustainable practice in business.  With the provision of pro bono strategy and business incubator mentor - Vivienne has supported artesans, crafters, agricultural producers and others to create, develop and improve their business.  Vivienne's third world work supporting sustainable development has included strategic consulting and support to UN designated poor region, third world governance support in eco-sustainable trade and touristic strategies, education and research of development practices.  She has also been a past member of Fair Trade Association and directly supported individuals, growers and traders to design and develop products, market and trade links.

Vivienne continues to support poverty alleviation and sustainable economic development in culture through a current project and PHD in Peace studies - the preservation, education of arts, culture and environment.  Profits from the sales of any Toba World products contribute to the ongoing funding of the Gaia Way of Peace Organization international project.

We support fair trade and ethical practices in labour, sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in business.
